This unique design stands out with its incorporation of transparency and opaque interaction as important elements. Soft colors, wooden surfaces, and carpeting further enhance the warm and inviting atmosphere. The space layout consists of an open working area with an array of semi-transparent closed functional rooms. This cooperative and interactive working "neighborhood environment" simultaneously conveys a welcoming message of invitation for both workers and visitors.
The public areas of Transparent Opaque were designed to duplicate the modern home effect. Fully equipped and furnished kitchenettes, living rooms, game rooms, and washrooms create a comfortable and homely atmosphere. Natural light from the surrounding windows floods the space, addressing the central concern of maintaining a healthy work environment.
The color scheme of Transparent Opaque was carefully chosen in repetitious smoked pastel tones, matching the company's brand. These tones appear on the upholstery, carpets, wall color, and graphics throughout the entire design. The underlying technique of sub space division plays with transparent opaque design through the use of glass partitions and patterned felt cloth screens. The felt material acts both as a sound absorber and a colorful visual highlight.
Transparent Opaque is located in southern Israel and covers a 4,000 square meter area. The two-storey building stands 5 meters in height and is of polygonal shape. The design project was completed before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in Israel and was designed for the grand hi-tech company "Amdocs." The entire project was completed within one year.
The design of Transparent Opaque was based on extensive research. Studio Tali Gotthilf analyzed the individual needs of the various departments, including the number of team members and their interaction and exchange of knowledge and ideas. The movement of employees on the previous floorplan was observed and measured, taking into account passage thoroughfare, employee location, and density in kitchenettes and meeting rooms. This research led to the inclusion of a centrally stationed staircase to enhance worker interaction and a group of small meeting rooms to meet the needs of the various work teams.
Overcoming creative, technical, and research challenges was crucial to the success of Transparent Opaque. The main challenge was providing an extension to the existing floor below while creating an entirely new experience above and maintaining a sense of flow between the three-storey levels. Studio Tali Gotthilf managed to provide continuity of design by altering the furnishing and coloring of the existing lower floor.
Transparent Opaque, designed by Studio Tali Gotthilf, is a testament to the power of thoughtful design in transforming a large space into an intimate and inviting work environment. This innovative high-tech office project has received recognition for its creativity and resourcefulness. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills and contribute to quality of life improvements.
